His metal mask shone in the sunlight, he prayed that this would not be his last day. “I should’ve done a matte pancake” he told himself. He knew it was shiny and probably hard to discern from the sea of waffles around him but it didn’t matter. What mattered is that the syrup doesn’t just run into its own box and stay there. He wanted movement, feel, sensation, and flow! He dreaded his breakfast every day, pouring his syrup into the perfectly boring molds just like everyone else. Gerry wanted a pancake for a change. He wants unpredictability and adventure. He longs for an uneven spread of syrup, a non parallel breakfast. But this will be his last day on earth. For he wants something he can’t have. Will he be killed by others for his uncommon love? Will he take his own life in the hopes that a flapjack awaits him on the other side? It doesn’t matter. He dies, and others live. No one will ever speak of his death, and there will be no funeral. No one will mourn and a tear won’t be shed. Gerry may never get his flapjack, but he never ate another waffle.

Great piece! Especially love the line “Will he take his own life in the hopes that a flapjack awaits him on the other side?”
