The disastrous events of the Hurricane Florence flooding has brought in an unimaginable amount of enormous mosquitos. The flooding and humidity that has enveloped the Carolina’s is a very welcoming habitat for mosquitos. They have been described as being 5 times larger than the average mosquito. USA Today has called it an “outbreak” and described them as “blood thirsty,” “aggressive,” and “monstrous pests.”

The mosquitos, called Gallinippers can grow to be 5 times larger than normal mosquitos, and have a bite that can be compared to being stabbed.

One woman questioned “Are those wasps or mosquitos?”

Another commented, “It was like a flurry — like it was snowing mosquitoes.”

The Gallnipper problem has gotten so bad that North Carolina governor, Roy Cooper has ordered that $4 million is to be spent on mosquito control in hurricane disaster areas.

Thankfully, they are not known to carry any mosquito-borne diseases that can effect humans, but the bites and pain that North Carolina citizens are experiencing are extremely annoying and unpleasant for everyone involved.
