The whir of printers and tapping of flying fingers on keyboards fills the air of the upper hall. Someone is doing speaking drills in the corner, pen between teeth, as another person rifles through a foot-high stack of papers. The preparation is frantic, but the rush is unparalleled. Debate season has begun. With two tournaments under their belt already and the non-quals just beginning, the Parker Bulls debate team will be a force to be reckoned with at the qualifying tournaments. After wrapping up the Beehive Bonanza tournament in Utah with stellar results (and a fourth place trophy), the team brought their A-game once again to the inter-island competition at Leilehua high school. There, the Bulls took home the first place trophy for most ballots won overall, beating huge schools like Punahou and Kamehameha in the process. With another Oahu tournament approaching this weekend, the debaters are putting their all into prepping their cases, making sure their files are printed, and organizing their evidence. The Parker debate team has had resounding success thus far, but they will need to maintain the same fervor and dedication throughout the rest of the season if they hope to get ‘a banner on the wall’.
