The world’s largest coral reef is facing life threatening dangers with global warming circumstances. The reef expands over 1,250 miles off the shores of Australia and is world renown. The warmer waters bleach it’s coral, and the reef can no longer keep up with what has been destroyed.

According to Terry Hughes, the lead author of a study on the subject published Wednesday in the journal Nature, “New corals settling on the reef declined by 89% after the “unprecedented loss” of adult corals in 2016 and 2017″

This percent will continue to increase depending on where the next bleaching site occurs. If we continue down the same path, then this reef may cease to exist in our future. Many believed the reef was too large to be destroyed, until present circumstances.
